Virtual club meetings are continuing every other week during June. On June 10, program coordinator Ted Gould has made arrangements for the club to have a virtual tour of the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen ICU area. This will be a great opportunity to see an area of the hospital facilities that is normally restricted to visitors. Installation of next year’s officers will be conducted on June 24. We will not have meetings on June 3 or June 17.
We are very excited to have former member Chip Snyder rejoin the club. Chip is a former club treasurer and president and will be a great addition to our membership. Louise has already put him to work on a flag team.
Rotary Club of Allen member Jonathan Boyd has been named as Allen ISD’s 2020 Friend of Education. This award is presented to community members who make a significant impact on the students and school district. Congratulations Jon!!
The next flag deployment of the club’s flags will be Flag Day, June 14. Louise is always in need of flag volunteers so let her know if you can help.
Our club recently awarded five community grants to the following organizations:
- Allen Philharmonic Orchestra
- Boy Scouts Circle 10 Council
- Teaching with Jamaica
- Lil’ Jacob Learning Center
- Rotary Safe House Naivasha Kenya
Our club also awarded four district grants to the following organizations:
- Allen Community Outreach
- Foundation for Allen Schools
- Send Hope
- Special ACO grant for the food pantry as a result of the pandemic
In total, our club awarded $16,500 in community and district grants this year. This was made possible by the many club volunteers who worked the concession stand, the Christmas parade and the flag routes. Your efforts have positively impacted both local and global communities.
