April will certainly be an unprecedented month for the Rotary Club of Allen. All April club meetings have been canceled to comply with CDC social distancing guidelines to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The board meeting scheduled for April 15 has also been canceled. If any action is required by the board during April, it will be dealt with via email.
We are investigating the feasibility of at least one on-line meeting during April. If we can work out the logistics, Jonathan Boyd will be our speaker and will give us an update on the impact of the coronavirus on Allen. Details will be communicated to club members via email.
Due to loss of employment resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, many North Texas families have been running short on funds to purchase food. To help address this need, District 5810 is making more funding available in District Designated Funds. The District is matching up to $1,250 per grant request, resulting in a total grant of $2,500 per club. Our board quickly approved applying for this grant and as a result the grant application was submitted and approved. Allen Community Outreach was presented with a $2,500 donation from our club on March 31.
This donation was directed specifically to the purchase of food for the ACO Food Pantry.
Quarter 2 invoices to club members for dues, lunch expense and Paul Harris sustaining member donations are normally sent out on April 1. However, these invoices will be delayed until club meetings are resumed. Plans are to adjust the lunch expense portion of these invoices to reflect the cancellation of meetings the last two weeks of Q1 and the first part of Q2.
